Godafoss (gods waterfall or waterfall godine) is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Iceland. Located near Lake Mývatn (Mývatn) in north-central Iceland at the beginning Sprengisandur Highlands. Water from the river Skjálfandafljót falls from a height of 12 m and 30 m in width.

In the year 999 or 1000 legislature established Thorgeir Christianity the official religion of Iceland. After his conversion, and after returning from the Althing, Thorgeir cast  statues of Nordic gods in the  waterfall. Thorgeir story is preserved in Iceland Book (Íslendingabók) thanks Ari Þorgilssonovi.
